A man accused of trying to rob a Bank of America branch in Alpharetta last week was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement on New Year's Eve.
A post on the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety's Facebook page said Manbir Minhas, 39, of Dunwoody was taken into custody the afternoon of Dec. 31.
"This afternoon, our detectives, with the assistance of the FBI-Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dunwoody Police Department took 39-year-old Manbir Minhas of Dunwoody into custody without incident a short distance from his home following a stakeout that led to a traffic stop," the post stated.
Minhas is accused of walking into the Bank of America Branch on Windward Parkway on Dec. 27 and demanding money. He told bank employees he had an explosive device that he would detonate if his demands were not met. He reportedly became frustrated when he was told the bank did not have the amount of money he was demanding, so he left the scene.
Minhas has been charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. No federal charges have been filed.
Police declined to release further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
