A Lithonia police officer was arrested on charges of rape and aggravated assault Friday morning.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, David Wilborn, 42, also faces a charge of violating his oath as a public officer after he allegedly assaulted a victim at a city park Thursday night.
The Lithonia Police Department requested assistance with the investigation from Dekalb County.
According to a statement acquired by the news outlet, Dekalb Police Special Victims Unit responded and collected evidence along with victim and witness statements. Wilborn was interviewed by DeKalb County detectives, arrested and charged.
“According to a police report, Wilborn and the alleged victim had no prior relationship. He was booked into the DeKalb jail about 6:30 a.m. Friday,” the AJC reported.
Wilborn has been placed on administrative leave, his termination is pending.
Wilborn faced similar accusation in 2008 and voluntarily resigned from the Atlanta Police Department after he was accused of sexual misconduct after a woman claimed Wilborn performed a sexual act in front of her while he was on duty.
“Wilborn allegedly admitted to supervisors that he approached the woman at the lingerie shop where she worked, followed her into a back room and engaged in the act, Georgia Police Officer and Training (POST) records show,” the news outlet said.
In 2010, Wilborn received a police certification suspension for two years from the POST council. He was hired by LPD in 2017.
