*The Appalachian Regional Commission has named Daniel Martin, Director of Economic Development for the Gainesville-based Georgia Mountains Regional Commission to participate in the inaugural class of the Appalachian Leadership Institute, a nine‐month program of skill‐building seminars, best practice reviews, field visits, mentoring, and networking. The curriculum will be anchored by six multi‐day seminars around the Appalachian Region.
*Daytime lane closures are planned Monday 9:00-5:00 at Georgia 365 and Duncan Bridge Road in Habersham County where Georgia DOT crews will be patching the intersection.
*The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission Career Coach will visit the Spout Springs Library in Flowery Branch on October 9 from 10 AM – 2 PM and the Hampton Park Library in Cumming October 10 from 10 AM - 2 PM. Experts will be on hand to help job-seekers search and apply for jobs, write resumes and cover letters, discern their career interests, and learn about funding for job training. There is no charge for these services.
*Allegheny College President Emeritus James H. Mullen, Jr., Friday presented the 2019 Allegheny College Prize for Civility in Public Life to Republican congressman Doug Collins of Gainesville and Democratic New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries for their collaborative work toward criminal justice reform, which resulted in the passage of the bipartisan First Step Act.
*Applications are open until October 14 for the 2020 Lead Forward Non-Profit Executive Coaching Program at the North Georgia Community Foundation. This 12-month peer-based learning program offers monthly group and individual sessions where leaders gain tools and skills necessary for personal and professional development to improve their organization.
