Drought conditions now cover 99 percent of Georgia, including all the northeastern part of the state, and up from 65 percent a week ago.

That's according to the latest report from the U.S Drought Monitor, which was released Thursday.

It shows that the worst conditions are in north and north-central Georgia - beginning in Rabun County and following a line southwestward through Habersham County, Hall County, and Forsyth County.  All of metro Atlanta is also included.   Drought conditions in these areas are considered "severe."  The same is true of pockets of counties to the northwest of Atlanta and in east-central Georgia.

The only parts of the state that remain officially "drought-free" and portions of three counties in extreme southwest Georgia.
