The Hall County Commission will vote Thursday on the first reading of a new ordinance governing nicotine alternatives such as vaping products and hookah.
County planners have been working on the ordinance since Spring, when the commission imposed a moratorium on hookah lounges. Hall County acting Planning Director Sarah McQuade said at Monday's commission work session that the staff is now ready to present the ordinance to commissioners.
"Essentially, we looked at what the state required as far as any ordinances related to those products and there wasn't anything, so the county decided to adopt one of our own," McQuade said.
McQuade said the ordinance will regulate the sale and use of non-traditional tobacco products, which she said will include hookah and vaping products. The ordinance will need to be voted on twice by the county commission, the first of which will be at Thursday's scheduled voting session.
A public hearing will be held before the vote.
