One of a series of classes to be held around the state for would-be storm spotters for the National Weather Service is planned in Oakwood next month.

The Skywarn Spotter Class is set for the University of North Georgia's Gainesville campus (in Oakwood) Oct. 16, at 6:00 p.m.

Skywarn is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters across the country, according to the NWS. These volunteers "providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service," according to the agency's Website, mainly identifying and describing severe local storms.
