Three people were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries following a mid-morning crash on Browns Bridge Road west of Gainesville Monday.

Sgt. C.E. Parker with the Georgia State Patrol in Gainesville said several vehicles were involved in the accident, which was reported around 10:15 a.m. near Flat Creek Road.

"The investigation showed a Dodge Journey driven by Michael Brandon Whitner, 29, of Lithonia crossed the centerline and sideswiped a tractor-trailer," Parker wrote in an email statement. "The truck was driven by Cory Andrew Newell, 45, of Cornelius, NC."

After the Dodge hit the truck, it the struck a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Brandon Alvarez, 22, of Cumming.

"Debris from the collision then struck a Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Charles Wayne Fallaw, 43, of Cumming," Parker said.

Whitner and his passenger, Candice Lightning, 35, were injured; Alvarez was also injured and transported to the hospital.

Parker said Whitner was cited for failure to maintain his lane of travel.

Browns Bridge Road was closed for more than an hour while the wreckage was cleared.
