An $8,500 grant from the Watson Brown Foundation has been made to Hall County Parks and Leisure Services for use in the ongoing restoration and preservation of Healan's Mill.

The presentation was made at last week's Hall County Board of Commissioners meeting.

"Healan’s Mill is a dear to our hearts project that began 4 years ago," says a posting on the Parks and Leisure Services Facebook page.  "In that time we have been able to save the 170-year-old grist mill, stabilize and restore it. In that time we have been able to acquire 96 additional acres of beautiful forest land and the old home place."

The department's plans are to turn the area into a "major historical site, educational site, and green space conservation area.."
