BUFORD – Buford’s defense took over in the second half, holding Life Christian scoreless in the weather-shorten 33-22 win against the Eagles at Tom Riden Stadium Friday night.
Although the game was called with 7:43 to go in the game, the Wolves trailed 22-17 earlier in the third quarter
Buford quarterback Jarvis Evans Jr was 10-of-15 passing with 143 yards and two touchdowns, including scoring passes to Elijah Turner (27 yards) and Jake Pope (47 yards)in the first half.
Life Christian took its opening drive and cashed it in for pay dirt to take the early lead, 8-0, after a successful two-point try.
The Wolves rallied back to take the lead, 10-8, off a Hayden Olsen 45-yard FG with 2 minutes left in the first.
But the Eagles snagged the halftime lead, 17-16, with a late score and a successful two-point try.
After a quick score from LCA in the third quarter, Turner rushed in from nine yards out, propelling the Wolves back to the lead, 24-22 with 5:06 to go in the third.
The Wolves’ defense forced a safety with 3:37 to go in the third. Gabe Ervin Jr added Buford’s final score of the game off a 4-yard run with 11:55 left in the game.
Buford (3-0) welcomes Newton County to Tom Riden Stadium Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
