BLUE RIDGE — Back-to-back big-play touchdowns lifted Union County past rival Fannin County, 33-14, Friday night at Rebel Stadium.
The Rebels rallied back from a 20-0 deficit to close the gap, 20-14, but Pierce Allison’s 55-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Morlock and Jonah Daniel's 33-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter slammed the door on the Rebels’ hopes of a comeback.
Allison finished the night 11-of-21 with 188 yards passing and four touchdowns. Daniel led the Panthers’ ground game with 118 yards on 13 carries.
Fannin’s Holloway was 11-of-26 with 132 yards passing.
In a relatively quiet first half for both teams, the Panthers found a way to score twice, both through the air to go up 13-0 by halftime.
Union upped its lead, 20-0, off an Allison 23-yard pass to Sawyer Drake in the third quarter. The Rebels answered with two straight scores, both on the ground to cut the lead to six points, 20-14.
Union County (3-0) will open up Region 8-2A play Friday at home against Monticello. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
