The Lake Lanier Association is hosting the 31st Annual Shore Sweep on Saturday, September 14 from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
"So far in the 31 years of Shore Sweep, we've picked-up over two million pounds of trash with thousands of volunteers pitching in just to keep our drinking water clean and safe and to beautify our lake," Jennifer Flowers, the executive director at Lake Lanier Association said.
There are 12 locations around the lake in Dawson, Forsyth, Gwinnett and Hall counties where trash will be picked-up.

Volunteers will need to register and can do so online as a pre-registration or show-up to any of the 12 locations to register on site.
Since the event is a clean-up, Flowers suggested volunteers wear closed toe-shoes, long pants, gloves, sunscreen and bug spray. The organization will provide gloves in the case people do not bring their own pair to protect from the unknown items that will be found.
"It's like a big adult treasure hunt, because you never know what you're going to end up with," Flowers said. "Anything you can find on a houseboat, you can find during Shore Sweep."
Volunteers will have the option to pick-up trash on land or may bring a boat, jet ski, kayak, etc. to help clean-up debris from the water. Volunteers who turn in a bag of trash will receive a free t-shirt.
