Gainesville Police: Winder man arrested for 2018 drive-by shootings

Posted 6:50PM on Thursday 12th September 2019 ( 4 years ago )

Gainesville Police Officers arrested a second suspect Thursday afternoon in a series of drive-by shootings from 2018.

Investigators took Jose Manuel Maldonado, 23, into custody in Winder after executing warrants. As of Thursday evening, he remains lodged in the Hall County Jail and has been charged with five counts of Aggravated Assault.

According to Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Vann, the charges stem from an incident that took place in July of 2018, where Maldonado allegedly committed two drive-by shootings — one on Monroe Drive and another on Spring Haven Drive.

"During the Spring Haven Drive a 26-year-old male was shot, he received non-life-threatening injuries," Vann said. "Maldonado is the second person charged in the crime and police have previously arrested and charged Anthony Dequon Thomas in the case."

The cases remain under investigation.
