Volleyball: Branch struggles at tough Rams Rally tourney

LOGANVILLE — The Flowery Branch girls volleyball team went 1-3 Saturday in the Rams Rally Volleyball Tournament at Grayson High School.

The Lady Falcons (13-18) opened with a win over Clarkston 25-10, 25-15 in pool play behind junior outside hitter Madi Sedwick, who had 2 kills, 10 aces, and 1 assist, and freshman setter Liza Thigpen, who had 9 assists, 2 aces, and 2 kills. But they lost a close three-set match to Tallulah Falls School 19-25, 25-20, 15-12. Senior outside hitter Katie Williams had 11 kills and 1 ace, senior middle blocker Sierra Lutz had 4 kills, and junior outside hitter Madi Sedwick had 4 kills, 1 ace, and 1.5 blocks.

The Falcons then dropped another tough three-set match to Loganville 25-23, 23-25, 15-5. Williams had 9 kills, Lutz added 5 kills, 2 aces, 1 assist, and .5 block, and sophomore right side Bri Hall had 4 kills for the Lady Falcons.

Flowery Branch then faced off against Loganville Christian Academy and lost a three-setter 22-25, 24-14, 15-13. Lutz had 4 kills and 1 ace, freshman middle blocker Emma Witman had 3 kills and .5 block, and Thigpen had 14 assists and 1 kill.

Flowery Branch will jump back into Region 7-4A play on Tuesday against Blessed Trinity and Denmark.
