HARTWELL — The offensive stats were close, but the score was not as Class A No. 5-ranked Commerce fell to Class 3A Hart County, 40-20, Friday night on the road.
The Bulldogs (3-0) outgained Commerce (2-1) by just 15 yards, 325-300, but that didn't matter on the scoreboard. Hart outscored Commerce 26-10 in the second half to beat the Tigers.
Sam Roach led the Tigers with 16 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown.
Malachi Thomas led the Bulldogs with 147 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns.
Commerce's Diaz booted a 20-yard field goal before the half to make it a one-point game, 14-13 -- the closest the Tigers would get.
The Bulldogs came out in the second half and didn't waste any time, putting together a one-minute, 55-yard scoring drive.
The Tigers only score in the second half came with 3:31 left on a Roach 15-yard run.
Commerce is off next week.
