With Hurricane Dorian approaching coastal North Carolina, Jackson EMC has released 84 contractors to help with the anticipated power restoration efforts in the area.

According to information released by the cooperative Wednesday morning, the contractors will be assisting Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation in Southport, N.C., which is located about 30 miles south of Wilmington. Brunswick EMC has cautioned its 76,000 members that Dorian could cause widespread power outages in the region.

"The contractors being released to Brunswick EMC are overhead line construction crews," said Jackson EMC spokeswoman April Sorrow in a press statement. "Contractor crews who perform vegetation management for Jackson EMC have also been released by the cooperative to assist with anticipated restoration efforts."

The contractors released by Jackson EMC will work alongside Brunswick EMC line crews to safely restore power to the co-op's members, Sorrow said.
