MT. AIRY — Habersham Central could not hold a pair of first-half leads as Madison County rallied in the fourth quarter for a 26-20 win over the Raiders Friday night at Raider Stadium.

Habersham Central (0-2) led 7-0 midway through the first quarter on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Ryte Woodruff to Patrick Tedder. Madison County tied the game early in the second quarter on a 1-yard scoring run from Dayton Gresham.

The Raiders reclaimed the lead moments later on a 3-yard Woodruff TD run which was answered with a Martavian Cooper 3-yard TD run six minutes later. Madison County eventually took a 16-14 lead into halftime on a safety.

It stayed that way until a busy three minute period in the fourth quarter. Madison County extended its lead to 19-14 on a 22-yard field goal from Camden Jordan but the Raiders answered that just over a minute later with a 15-yard TD run from Arian Curry to retake a 20-19 lead.

Madison County took the final with 5:54 left on a 15-yard run by Colby Smith.

Habersham was driving for the potential go-ahead score in the final minute but a penalty and a missed pass attempt snuffed out the chance as Madison County ran out the final few seconds.
