To quote comedian John Cleese, "And now for something completely different."

With the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series having the weekend off, what better time for AccessWDUN Motorsports Editor Brandon Reed to take some well deserved time off.

That's just what he did, as Reed hit the road last week on what he refers to as his "Cannonball Run."

This year's run led to Mooresville, North Carolina, and the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame.  That's where Brandon met up with follow Hard Left Turn hosts Pete McCole and Amy Henderson.  And the nice folks at the NCARHOF were kind enough to let them record this week's podcast from the theater room at the Hall.

The only bump in the road came just as they started recording, when the heavens opened up and torrential downpour came down outside.  That led to some noise you may hear from the building's metal roof, but as Brandon said, "We can ony worry about the things we can control.  Everything else, we just deal with."

With that in mind, our intrepid trio sat down (well, Pete and Amy sat.  Brandon had to stand to be near the laptop to record) and discussed a variety of things, including:

-How impressive the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame is, and how helpful and friendly the all-vounteer staff at the 501(c)3 non-profit is.

-Some of our favorite items in the Hall, and some of our favorite stories that came to mind.

-Earlier in the day, Pete and Brandon traveled to Kannapolis, North Carolina and Scott's Collectibles, a memorabilia shop owned by Scott Haas.  They spoke at length with Scott about the history of racing collectibes, some of our favorites, and how a store like that can stay afloat in the day of online sales.  Oh, and Brandon dropped some coin on some choice items.  You can see one of them in the photo gallery.

-We preview the upcoming Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway.

WDUN will carry live MRN Radio coverage of this weekend's NASCAR action from Darlington Raceway, beginning on Saturday with the NASCAR Xfinity Series Sports Clips 200 beginning at 3:30 pm on 102.9 FM and streaming live on AccessWDUN.  Coverage continues on Sunday with the 70th annual Southern 500 beginning at 5 pm on 102.9 FM, AM 550 and streaming live on AccessWDUN.

Special thanks to the folks at the NCARHOF and Scott's Collectibles for making this week's show possibe.

Pete McCole's favorite exhibit at the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame was this 1/24 scale diecast display mounted on the wall that featured an autograph from each driver.
One of Brandon Reed's favorite displays was "Sadie", Tim Richmond's No. 27 Pontiac, which was once owned by Dawsonville, Georgia's David Sosebee.
