JEFFERSON — Oconee County rallied from an early deficit and spoiled Jefferson’s home opener Friday night with a 21-20 victory at Memorial Stadium.
The Dragons (0-1) led early in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run by Colby Clark. Oconee County tied the game in the second quarter on a 23-yard run by quarterback Max Johnson and the game went into halftime tied at 7.
Jefferson got a third quarter 16-yard touchdown pass from Clark to Donsha Gaither and 66-yard fourth quarter scoring bomb from Clark to Malaki Starks to take a 20-14 lead. But an injury to the Dragons kicker forced them to go for two and the Warriors defense held.
Oconee County then marched down the field and got a late touchdown run with 4:19 left and a successful extra point to take the lead. The Warriors defense was able to hold the Dragons offense to preserve the win.
Jefferson finished the game with just 246 yards of total offense. Oconee County managed just 240 yards of offense for the game.
