The circumstances that left a woman seriously injured at Lake Burton Thursday remain under investigation.

Rabun County Fire Services and Rabun County Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene at 4:42 p.m. on Kubler Lane on Lake Burton, said Assistant Fire Chief Justin Upchurch.

“The incident was initially reported as a female possibly hit by a boat, but was later determined a boat was not involved,” said Mark McKinnon of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.

“It appears to be an accident that occurred at the victim’s boathouse,” McKinnon said.

Friday morning, Upchurch said the first personnel on scene reported a female who had been in the water near a boathouse with a severe arm injury. Passersby had found the woman and removed her to the dock prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

Blairsville-based AirLife Georgia 14 responded to fly the victim to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for care.

“The cause of her injuries is unknown at this time,” Upchurch said.

The investigation is continuing by DNR Law Enforcement personnel.

Rabun County Fire Services and Emergency Services personnel are shown at the landing zone for AirLife Georgia 14.
