Northside Hospital announces merge with Gwinnett Health Systems

Posted 5:24PM on Wednesday 21st August 2019 ( 5 years ago )

Northside Hospital and the Gwinnett Health System are preparing to combine forces to form a single health care operation that will be in effect August 28.

According to a press release from Northside Hospital, the new system will expand Northside by 1,623 inpatient beds, more than 250 outpatient locations and will have 21,000 employees and 3,500 physicians on staff.

The change will come with a new president and CEO. Phil Wolfe, who served as president and CEO of Gwinnett Health for 13 years, outed his retirement effective Aug. 28. Debbie Mitcham, who has worked for Northside Hospital for 25 years, will take over Wolfe’s position as the new CEO and president of Northside’s Gwinnett health care system.

“Other important leadership changes are occurring – all with the single goal of seamlessly integrating operations to strengthen this new, expanded system,” Katherine Watson with Northside Hospital said in a press release.

Gwinnett Health System patients will witness virtually no changes in their regimen, care or treatment, but the names of the locations will change.

Signage changes at the locations listed will not be made immediately, but will be conducted upon research, input and planning, the press release said.

Care received at the Gwinnett locations beginning on Aug. 28 will be billed from Northside Hospital and should be paid to Northside Hospital. Care received before Aug. 28 will be billed and paid to Gwinnett Medical Center.
