BUFORD — Ansleigh Hollifield's pitching performance helped the Lady Wolves beat Brookwood, 3-1, and pick up the program's 500th victory Tuesday afternoon at the Buford Softball Complex.
The senior struck out a career-high 12 batters, allowed three hits and one earned run in the complete-game outing.
Trailing 1-0 going into the fifth inning, the Lady Wolves exploded for three runs, including a solo home run over the right-center field wall from junior Abbi Perkins. Junior Emi Hall and senior Kara Taylor both drove in runs in the inning.
Buford (7-2) will host Norcross on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The milestone win was just another accolade for the storied Buford fast-pitch program. Since 2002, the start of fast-pitch softball, the Lady Wolves have won 10 region championships, reached the semifinals five times and reeled off 10-straight state championships (2007-17) in four different classifications (2A, 3A, 4A, 5A).
Brandon Manders (2002-2005; 91-48), Jacob Travis (2006; 29-11) and Tony Wolfe (2007-present; 380-61-2; 10 state titles) helped build the program into a state contender.
