While the cause of death remains under investigation, Toccoa police have identified the man found dead recently in a woman's home as Michael Todd Thompson, 39, of Toccoa.

At roughly midnight July 31, officers were dispatched to 43 Norman St., regarding a possibly deceased person, Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize reported following the incident.

The female resident of the apartment returned from a week’s stay in the hospital, returned home and was unable to open the door, according to Mize. Upon looking in the rear door of the residence, she saw an unknown man against the door and dialed 9-1-1.

After the autopsy and positive identification of Thompson, the Stephens County Coroner’s Office notified his family, according to Mize.
