As the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues an investigation into an officer-involved shooting over the weekend, agents have released the name of the suspect who was shot and killed.

Aigon Andrew Wallace, 25, of Florida had been the subject of a search by the Braselton Police Department in a kidnapping incident, according to GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons.

The shooting happened Saturday, August 3.

"At approximately 2:58 p.m., Braselton PD officers located Wallace in a parked vehicle in the Kroger parking lot at 910 Athens Highway in Loganville," Ammons said in a press statement issued Sunday night. "When officers made contact with Wallace, he attempted to flee and resisted arrest. An officer tackled him and during the altercation, Wallace attempted to draw two knives from his pockets. One officer fired during the incident, striking Wallace."

Ammons said Wallace was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.

Ammons said two knives were recovered at the scene.

The officers were not injured; their names were not released.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation, according to Ammons. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
