The city of Flowery Branch will host a second open house next week for a proposed apartment and commercial development on Hog Mountain Road.

City Planning Director Rich Atkinson said city staff and representatives from the applicant, Planners and Engineers Collaborative, Inc. will be at the open house, which will be held Wednesday, August 7 at 6:00 at Flowery Branch City Hall on Church Street.

The development, which was tabled by the Flowery Branch City Council in June, would sit on 32 and a half acres of land on the north side of Hog Mountain Road across from Cash Road next to Flowery Branch High School. Documents available on the city's website say Planners and Engineers Collaborative is looking to rezone the land from Agricultural to Residential-Multi-Family and Highway Business to build more than 300 apartment units and around 20,000 square feet of commercial space.

At Thursday's city council meeting, Atkinson said the city and applicant held an open house on Wednesday, July 31 but no one attended.

"We do it, basically, to let the public come and meet and greet with the developers for anything that's considered a fairly large projects," Atkinson said. "We think it helps alleviate some of the stress and the problems at the public hearing and it's a more comfortable setting to be able to sit and talk and ask any questions they want."
