Hall County and it's municipalities are still finishing projects using funds from the county's seventh Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, but Flowery Branch city officials are already looking ahead to the potential money that could come to the city from SPLOST VIII.

That SPLOST would need to be approved by Hall County voters in 2020. If approved, Flowery Branch City Finance Director Alisha Gamble told the city council Thursday that the city could receive just under $6.8 million over a six year period.

City Manager Bill Andrew said the city has used most of its SPLOST funds over the past several years for road improvements.

"It would be important for us to utilize those funds to handle the growth that we're having," Andrew said.

Gamble told council members that the city would likely look to use most of the SPLOST VIII funds for improvements of Interstate 985's exit at Spout Springs Road, with other money going to downtown storm water improvements and culverts on Lights Ferry Road and East Main Street.

SPLOST VII will continue through fiscal year 2020.
