An Italian company that makes refrigeration systems will bring 140 jobs to the Buford area when it builds a $5 million manufacturing plant there, Gov. Brian Kemp’s office announced Thursday.

It will be Rivacold’s first facility in the United States. Headquartered in Montecchio, Italy, Rivacold currently employs 1,200 worldwide. Their products are used in a variety of sectors including food retail, medical, vending machines, and the dairy industry.

“Rivacold will join a booming manufacturing industry in our state, and I am excited for the opportunities this new facility will create for hardworking Georgians in Gwinnett County,” Kemp said in a news release.

Doug Schmidt, the president of Rivacold North America, said the company has been a leading refrigeration innovation and design service in Europe for more than 50 years, and is excited to finally establish itself in the U.S.

“Throughout our experience, we’ve learned that the only way to serve customers properly is to have local design and manufacturing to meet the rapidly changing demands of our customer base,” Schmidt said. “For that reason, we are excited to announce our commitment to the North American market, the State of Georgia, and Gwinnett County with the opening of our production facility this summer in Buford.”

The announcement is further proof that Georgia has established itself as a top competitor for investment from international manufacturers.

“Our logistics network and workforce training programs like Quick Start have built an atmosphere where manufacturers like Rivacold can succeed,” said Pat Wilson, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
