A Dawsonville man was formally charged this week with murdering his wife.

Jeremy Wade Gibson, 44, appeared in Dawson County Magistrate Court to hear the charges against him. He is charged with two counts of murder and one count each of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and cruelty to children.

Gibson is accused of following his wife, Amy Alexandra Dawson, 44, to Dawson County Fire Station #7 on Monday night and opening fire on her vehicle. Two young children, believed to be 5 and 8, were in the car when the shooting happened. The children were not injured and were released into custody of the Department of Family and Children Services.

At a news conference Tuesday, Sheriff Jeff Johnson said the couple has a history of domestic problems. He didn’t elaborate and said he wasn’t sure what brought the victim to the fire station Monday night.

Gibson is still being held. His next court appearance is August 14 in Dawson County Superior Court.
