HELEN – Helen police are continuing their investigation into an alleged rape that occurred last week in the tourist city in White County.

Stephen Robert Stephens, 23, of Richland was arrested Tuesday, July 23, after the alleged incident at “one of the motels here”, said Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens, who released details today.

“It was an alleged rape,” Stephens said. “It was stranger to stranger. Well, they had met prior to the alleged rape taking place – the same day.”

Asked whether alcohol was involved, Stephens said, “I don’t know. It hasn’t been determined yet.”

The victim is a female of legal age, according to Stephens, who said both the victim and alleged perpetrator are from out of town.

Stephens said the investigation is ongoing and no further details are available.
