A Jackson County man has been sentenced to serve 115 years in prison for his role in a shooting and SWAT standoff that took place in June 2018.
Jonathan Allen entered his official plea on July 8 of this year, pleading guilty to 4 counts of Aggravated Assault, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, 3 counts of Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Cruelty to Children in the 3rd Degree and Terroristic Threats.
The case began on June 22, 2018, when Jackson County deputies were called to a home on Cooper Road in Braselton in reference to a shooting.
"Jonathan Allen had shot his mother Linda Allen," explained Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum. "Allen had also shot at a UPS truck driver."
Mangum said when deputies arrived on scene, Allen opened fire, striking two police vehicle after authorities had taken cover.
"Allen was hit as one of the deputies returned fire, and then he retreated and barricaded himself back into the house," Mangum continued.
Several other agencies were called to the scene to assist in the standoff, with Hall County SWAT among them.
"Hall County SWAT...arrived on the scene and Allen was taken into custody after a short time," Mangum said. "Allen has remained in custody and was housed in another county since the incident."
Allen had his sentence handed down on Thursday, a little over 2 weeks after entering his plea.
