In an effort to raise funding for the addition of three new public art pieces in the local town center park, the City of Suwanee has announced its first-ever capital campaign initiative.
The "Art for All" campaign is described by a city press release as an effort to "raise $1.25 million in private contributions" that would support the inclusion of the three pieces - "an interactive, signature installation; a gateway entrance piece; and an installation in the railroad underpass" - in the city's Town Center Park Expansion.
The release said that Suwanee's wide array of public art is funded solely through sponsor support, with no tax dollars being used. However, a fundraising feasibility study completed in 2018 led city officials to launch the "Art for All" campaign after they received a $100,000 sponsorship from Quantum National Bank, the largest commitment the city has received to date.
“While Suwanee provides the infrastructure of new parks and green spaces, it is the support of private citizens and businesses that provides the public art that has played such a significant role in what Suwanee does, what Suwanee is, and how Suwanee is viewed,” said Assistant City Manager Denise Brinson. “With the help of our citizens, we will continue to elevate the role of public art and the impact of artistic engagement in our community.”
City officials recently committed $16 million for the expansion of Town Center Park, which upon completion will become "one of the largest urban parks in metro Atlanta."
The "Art for All" campaign has been selected as one of the highlighted nonprofits for the annual "Good 2 Give Gala" held by the Foundation of Northeast Georgia. This year's gala will be held on August 17.
