Headline-making black bear finds new home in Northeast Georgia mountains

Posted 9:48PM on Tuesday 23rd July 2019 ( 4 years ago )

There has been a black bear making its way around Gwinnett County and the animal has now been relocated.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the bear has been seen visiting the same neighborhood in Duluth two days in a row to search for food.

Rangers captured the bear Tuesday and on top of relocating it to the North Georgia mountains, they've also put a tracking device on the bear to keep up with movements.

DNR does not normally relocate animals until they become a potential danger to themselves or to people. This bear is considered to have been in its natural habitat.

A black bear, perhaps the same bear, was spotted in Duluth a few weeks ago and one was hit by a car in Norcross the week before.
