A tractor-trailer fire just off Interstate 85 on the offramp to Martin Bridge Road in Banks County shut down that ramp for much of Monday.

Banks County Fire/EMS was dispatched to the fire on I-85 northbound at Exit 154, Martin Bridge Road on a reported commercial vehicle fire, at 1:56 p.m. Monday, said Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.

“Upon arrival, units found a tractor-trailer with the trailer 50% involved with fire,” Nichols said. “The tractor part of the unit had been uncoupled and moved from the scene.”

Firefighters extinguished the fire, but the offramp to Martin Bridge Road remained closed all afternoon due to the major damage caused to the trailer, Nichols said.

No injuries were reported, and a local clean-up company is removing the debris, according to Nichols.

The trailer was hauling groceries and was fully loaded.
