Crowell takes City Championship title

GAINESVILLE — Second round leader Grant Crowell birdied the 54th hole to capture the City Championship Sunday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Crowell topped two-time champion Will Peeples by two strokes. Crowell had a 54-hole total of even par 216. Peeples finished at 2-over 218. Gainesville High girls golf coach Brad Prestridge closed with a final score of 72 to climb into third place at 221, 5-over par. Four players -- Jonathan Gaillard, Alex Morettini, Ricky Brown and three-time defending champion Nathan Williams -- tied for the fourth at 6-over 222.

Sam Patterson finished with a 75, 227 to take the Championship B division title. Patterson finished three shots ahead of Brody Simmons, who also fired a 75 on Sunday to finish at 230. Walter Hope finished third at 231 followed by Michael Gordy in fourth with a 232.

Jeff Waggoner had a good weekend winning the overall net division with a 54-hole total of 205, 13 stokes under par.

In the First Flight, Will Hicks came from two shots behind with a nice 74 (151) for the win. Hicks was four shots clear of John Yarger at 155. Gene Weschler was the net winner with scores of 68 and 73 for a 141 total.

John Payne shot a 2nd round 80, 156 to win the second flight by seven shots over Scott Head, who was the net winner with scores of 65 and 74 and a total 139.

In the Third Flight, "Big Ed" Waller finished Sunday with a fine round of 77 for a 160 total to win the flight by nine strokes over Dan Winston. Winston won the net with rounds of 69 and 72 for a 141 total.
