UNG's Crowell takes lead into final round of City Championship

GAINESVILLE — University of North Georgia golfer Grant Crowell fired a 71 Saturday in the second round of the 2019 City Championship to take a two-shot lead over two-time City Champion Will Peeples (2008 and 2011).

Crowell finished the first two rounds with an eve-par 144. Peeples had  consecutive rounds of 73 for a 146 total. Three shots of of the pace is another UNG golfer, Ryan Hogan, who sits 3-over 147. Alex Morettini, Jackson Bishop (2015 champion) and Jim Foote Four all are four shots back at 148.

In the Championship B Division, Sam Patterson followed up an opening round 79 with a strong 1-over par round of 73 to take a two shot advantage over Tanner Peacock at 144. Lurking at three shots behind Patterson are Brody Simmons and Walter Hope, each with 154 totals.

The First Flight is a tight race. Gene Weschler opened the first round with a 3 over par 75 and holds a thin one shot lead over Jeff Skorput and John Yarger, both with 76.Still in the hunt are Will Hicks, 77, and Jeff Sanford with at 78.

The Second Flight will be a fight to the finish as well. John Payne posted a 76 and has a one stroke lead over Scott head. Eric Awtry is only two strokes behind at 78.

"Big Ed" Waller and Dan Winston are tied with rounds of 83 in the Third Flightheading heading into Sunday's final round. Andy Williams is four shots back in third place after an opening round 87.
