The funeral will be held Wednesday for former Hall County Commission Chairman Jerry Carpenter, who was also a former member of the county board of education.
Carpenter, who was 79, died at his Oakwood home Saturday following an extended illness.
He was a two-term member of the commission, serving one term as its chairman. In addition, he served two terms on the school board, also serving one term as its chairman.
Carpenter was a part of the local 1996 Olympic Committee and traveled abroad to help bring the canoe/kayak/rowing venue to Hall County. According to his obituary, he was a successful archery champion and a member of the Georgia Bow Hunting and Archery Association.
He was a retired Southern Bell (now AT&T) supervisor, having worked for the company for 32 years.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 Wednesday in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
