Charges are pending in a Saturday-afternoon wreck that claimed the life of a Florida woman east of Cleveland.
The two-vehicle wreck occurred on Ga. 115 east of Dock Dorsey Road in White County at about 12:35 p.m., according to Sgt. 1st Class A.J. Allen of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.
That wreck claimed the life of Catherine Grant-Coons, 65, of Tavares, Fla., according to Allen.
A 2007 Freightliner tractor pulling a 53-foot trailer and driven by James Martin, 46, of Cleveland was traveling west on Ga. 115, according to Allen.
As the tractor-trailer approached stopped traffic, Martin aggressively brake in an attempt to avoid a collision, Allen said. The truck jackknifed, causing the trailer to rotate counterclockwise and travel into the eastbound lane.
The tractor-trailer then struck an eastbound 2001 GMC Savanna van driven by Grant-Coons, according to Allen. The truck struck the van in its front with the truck’s right front corner.
Martin was uninjured in the crash and charges are pending at this time, Allen said.
Grant-Coons died in the crash.
Ga. 115 was shut down between Lothridge Road and Dock Dorsey Road for approximately six hours, according to Allen.
Dock Dorsey Road, located between Ga. 255 and Pless Road off Ga. 115, provides access to CeNita Vineyards.
