The father of the boy, Libao Chen, 30, remains at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in serious condition.

On the day of the incident, both had been recovered from the waters at a beach at Margaritaville when Hall County Fire Services arrived on scene, according to information released from Division Chief Zach Brackett.

"The father noticed that the son had not surfaced and went into the lake to find him. He then went under water," Brackett said.

He said life guards at Margaritaville recovered both the boy and the father from the water.
