Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was successful Tuesday in getting a resolution passed to condemn President Donald Trump for his recent Twitter activity, but her efforts did not come without objection from Republicans, specifically Doug Collins of Gainesville.
In her call for condemnation of the President's words, Pelosi directly called the tweets aimed at four Democrat congresswomen "racist comments."
Collins immediately objected, saying Pelosi's remarks violated a parliamentary House rule which prohibits personal criticism of the President from the House floor.
In a rare procedural rebuke, Collins called for Pelosi's words to be stricken from the Congressional record. After a delay of an hour and a half, Democrat Steny Hoyer ruled Pelosi's words had violated a House rule; however, Democrats voted to leave the Speaker's words as spoken on the record.
