Gainesville High standout golfer Andrew Hughes has been on a roll of late.

Hughes, a rising junior, had a satisfying 10-day span in June. Early in the month on the University of Georgia Golf Course, Hughes qualified for the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship to be played at Inverness Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio beginning on Monday and running through Saturday.

On the UGA course, Highes fired a 2-under par 69 to tie for first place in a field of 132 players. Only four players qualified for the US Junior Amateur tournament.

A week later, Hughes won the Georgia State Golf Association's 2019 Junior Match Play Championship shooting a 76 in the qualifier to make it to the match play round of the top 16 golfers. Hughes then beat fellow Red Elephant standout Ryan Davidson in the quarterfinals, took out Myles Jones 5-and-3 in the semifinals, and captured the title with a 1-up victory over Luke Koenig.
