A 10-year-old child and his father are in serious condition after a possible drowning incident at Lake Lanier Islands Thursday afternoon.

Both had been recovered from the waters at a beach at Margaritaville when Hall County Fire Services arrived on scene, according to information released from Division Chief Zach Brackett.

"The father noticed that the son had not surfaced and went into the lake to find him. He then went under water," Brackett said in an email statement.

He said life guards at Margaritaville recovered both the boy and the father from the water.

He said the child and father were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in serious condition. The boy will be transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Brackett said his crews were called to the scene at 2:50 p.m.
