SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. - Dane Dacus was out front when it counted in Saturday night’s Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series event at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee.
Dacus was leading when the rains began to fall over the raceway two laps short of the scheduled distance.
With the race called officially, Dacus came away as the winner.
Dacus battled with pole sitter Josh Putnam on the first lap, moving to the lead on lap two.
Dacus worked his way through lapped traffic, only to see the action stopped on lap 24 due to a brief rain shower.
Once the shower passed and the race was restarted, Dacus moved back to the top spot. After holding off a challenge from Ashton Winger, the rains returned on lap 38 of 40.
Winger finished in second, with Riley Hickman in third, Putnam in fourth and David Breazeale in fifth.
Zack Leonhardi, David Gentry, Tray McElhiney, Brad Skinner and Mark Dodson rounded out the top ten.
The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series was next scheduled to compete at Mississippi’s Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 13, but that race has been postponed due to high heat indexes forecasted this weekend as well as the uncertainty of the weather system that is currently forecasted to be in the Gulf of Mexico.
The series will make a return trip to Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday, August 3. For more information, visit SASDirt.com.
