A baby died when she was bitten by a dog Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities with Hall County Fire Services.

Capt. Zachary Brackett with Hall County Fire Services said the 22-day-old girl was bitten in the head at a residence in the 2900 block of Gillsville Highway just before 2:00p.m.

He said the baby was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

First Lieutenent Chris Dale said the child was pronounced dead at the hospital and Hall County Animal Control and Enforcement took custody of the dog, which belonged to the family.

The investigation is in the early stages, but at this time no charges have been filed.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the child pending notification of the rest of the family.
