A 26-year-old woman is facing felony charges after Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies found her 3 year old child home alone.
Authorities were called shortly after 1:30 a.m. to the Northside Hospital Forsyth emergency room after a man and woman were brought in by ambulance from a local restaurant and bar, according to Cpl. Doug Rainwater.
The woman, Kelly May Algar, was highly intoxicated when she arrived at the emergency room, and the man appeared to be in serious condition, Rainwater said.
"But she did make a comment to the emergency room nurses that she had to leave very quickly because she had to go take care of her 3 year old, who was at the house alone," Rainwater said.
Rainwater said deputies rushed to the north Forsyth County home and found the child safe and in good condition. Rainwater said they contacted DFACS, who took the child into their care.
Algar faces a felony charge of first degree cruelty to children; her bond was set at $22,730 and Rainwater said she bonded out of the Forsyth County Jail on July 1.
Rainwater said the boyfriend is currently not facing charges and due to his medical issues, Rainwater was not able to release his identity. He did say Algar admitted that she was the mother of the child and the boyfriend was not the father.
Rainwater encouraged parents that are new to the area or don't have a sitter otherwise to stay home until you find a reliable and trustworthy babysitter. He said it was obvious Algar left the child home alone, at night, for several hours.
"Competent babysitters are all over Forsyth County. You can check them out, check their parents out, check on different websites that advertise babysitters. You can find a babysitter in 30 minutes to an hour if you need one," Rainwater said.
