State fire investigators are assisting fire and police departments in two North Georgia jurisdictions as they look into two arson fires that were set this week. There is no indication the fires are related.
Royston home suffers heavy damage in Monday fire
The first fire was reported at 6:40 a.m. Monday, July 1, according to information released by the Safety Fire Commissioner's Office. A single-wide mobile home at 658 Joe Findley Road in Royston suffered major damage in the fire. Authorities said the 1,200 square- foot residence is 25 years old and had been unoccupied for about a year. Investigators said it appeared the fire started at the back left side of the structure. The Hart County Fire Department and the Hart County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the blaze.
Tuesday fire damages porch of Cornelia house
State fire investigators were called Tuesday, July 2 to assist the City of Cornelia fire and police departments with an investigation into a house fire at 167 Slayton Street. The fire was reported at 5:40 a.m. The single-story, 1,000 square-foot wood-frame home is about 80 years old. The house suffered minor damage to the front steps.
Anyone who has any knowledge of either fire should call the Arson Hotline at 1‐800‐282‐5804. Rewards are offered of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). Calls are taken 24 hours a day and callers can choose to remain anonymous.
