GBI agents responded to an apartment complex that caters to UGA students where an officer-involved shooting left the suspect dead and one officer injured.
Athens-Clarke County Police responded to the call Monday afternoon and very few details are available at this time.
Police Chief Cleveland Spruill said officers responded just before 12:30 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a man acting “erratically” holding a knife and covered in blood.
Spruill said they never found another victim and investigators do not know where the blood came from.
GBI officials say the officer's injuries are minor.
Authorities are not releasing the identity of the suspect, but they confirm that it was not a UGA student.
This is the 39th officer-involved shooting the GBI has investigated this year.
