Posted 5:57PM on Friday 28th June 2019 ( 4 years ago )

An intoxicated man drowned right in front of the Forsyth County deputy trying to ensure his safety.

Cpl. Doug Rainwater said a deputy responded to a call of an intoxicated man at 6 Mile Creek park around 2:00a.m. on June 21st.

The deputy found a man, identified as 54-year old Wesley Echols, in a cove in a paddle boat who responded to his calls across the water with slurred speech.

After the deputy boarded a dock owners boat to make contact with the man, the man disappeared.

DNR agents found the body of Echols nearby.

Rainwater said there were no signs of foul play and they're calling his death an accidental drowning.
