The City of Duluth will soon be installing speed detection cameras in school zones in the city.

The AJC reports the city has contracted with RedSpeed to install the cameras on roads near Duluth Middle School, Coleman Middle School, Mason Elementary School and Chattahoochee Elementary.

The cameras will also be equipped with license plate readers.
A Dacula Police representative said the cameras will help improve safety for children in school areas as more than an estimated 8,000 drivers a day speed through the school zones.

With the new cameras, violators with be given a $75 ticket on the first violation and following offences will rise to $125 for each additional violation.

RedSpeed is installing the cameras in exchange for $35% of the revenue generated by their use.
