If you stop by Gainesville High School and walk into the Red Elephants weight room or field house, you'll see the word GRIT.

It's actually an acronym meaning Grind, Responsibility, Integrity and Toughness. It's the mantra Gainesville coach Heath Webb has been using since he took the job.

Webb enters his second season rebuilding the Red Elephant football program. He's calling it the "1,000-day project." The Red Elephants will pass the halfway mark in August, and Webb believes his program has made big strides in less than 500 days.

"We have to remain patient and diligent until we make that mark," he said. "Because of what's happening, we feel like we may be ahead of that 1,000-day calendar at this point."

AccessWDUN continues its summer series, Mic'd Up, with Webb this week.  It's a way to go inside the program and see how the area's football coaches teach, motivate, parent and coach their players.

High school football coaches work all summer in preparation for the upcoming season. AccessWDUN Sports will document the journey through the new series.
