Hall County has earned the distinction of being a "WaterFirst" community.
The distinction is given by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority
"We are very excited about this opportunity and this is a great way to show stewardship for our environment," Hall County Public Works Director Ken Rearden said.
Rearden added, being a "WaterFirst" community is based on a number of factors regarding preservation and conservation efforts.
Being "WaterFirst" makes the county eligible for applying to many state level grants including water-related project applications through the Community Development Block Grant Program through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. It gives the county priority status in Georgia Department of Natural Resources 319 Grant Program. It also allows an interest reduction on loans from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.
Rearden said they will soon post signs all around the county announcing it is now a "WaterFirst" community.
