There were no injuries or damages reported, but some residents in the Lake Hartwell area felt a little shimmying Sunday night because of a small earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake measured 2.3 on the Richter scale.
The quake hit around 11 p.m. on June 9 about three miles west of Reed Creek in Hart County.
A report from Georgia News Network said small quake happen in that area from time to time, but it has been more than 100 years since a large quake has impacted the area. A 5.1 magnitude quake was reported in 1916.
Hartwell Dam is not a long way from where the quake happened. Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers are required to inspect the dam when a quake 4.5 or larger strikes.
